“Photography is not only an art form, but it’s my way of life”
Every since I can remember, I’ve been doing crafts. Whether I was making Raggedy Ann in Kindergarden Art Class, or painting my foot and turning it into a turkey for my mom, I’ve always been crafting.
Just like any other kid, when I was growing up I always wanted to be a ________. Why a blank you ask? Because it was every changing. One minute I wanted to be a chef so I could create “Art” that I could eat, and the next I wanted to be an Art Teacher to show others how to use their creativity to their advantage. And then somehow, eight years ago when we moved back to the country, everything began clicking into place.
Eight years ago, I got my first camera – and boy do I remove it like it was yesterday. I got a simply point-and-shoot Canon for my birthday and thought it was the bees knees (I’m sure it would’ve been for any 12 year old). From then on I began documenting my life, the ones around me, and the unfortunate selfies that weren’t so popular at the time. That camera went EVERYWHERE with me. If it wasn’t in my hand, what you were showing me didn’t interest me. And yet, I didn’t think it could get any better than that.
Well of course it did, because within a year to two years I upgraded again! However I was finally able to make it out of the point-and-shoot world and into the DSLR world with my new Nikon D60. Boy was that thing amazing, reliable, and durable! Compared to my point-and-shoot it was like gold. Not only was it larger, faster, better quality; it was also top of the line (at the time of course). This camera, just like the first had no boundaries. It went where I did at all times. It sat in the car for our long car rides to the beach, and it even experienced a few tumbles in the sand. And to my great amazement it still works today. And once again, I didn’t think things could get any better than that.
And that brings us to my baby, the Nikon D800. I honestly had no idea it was coming. None. Zip. Nada. I remember coming downstairs in 2012 right after I graduated high school and talking to my mom & step dad about what I wanted (this is a daily occurrence in my house, because a girl can never have enough stuff). So I began to do that whole, well I’m an only child thing, and I’ve been really good, graduated 11th in my class, blah, blah, blah. And then all of a sudden it’s like they finally heard me. They agreed to spilt the cost for my brand new camera with me and I was ecstatic. But then, things got better.
It was like magic I swear. Somehow my step dad had gotten up without me seeing and he put my BRAND NEW CAMERA on the counter. They had already purchased it for me and boy did I tear into that box. It was literally a dream come true, and to this day I still love the camera and wouldn’t trade it for the world (ok I take that back, if I was offered a D3x I would gladly accept).
The D800 is AMAZING, in case you didn’t already get that, and it has been treated exactly that way.
So that my friends, is how I ended up in this lovely profession that I honestly wouldn’t trade for the world. I’m sure the craftiness in my blood, only helped in my decision a little bit… or a lot (:
