Today we’ll be discussing what TO + what NOT TO wear to your engagement session!
To begin with, always choose something you’re comfortable wearing. No this doesn’t mean his big comfy tee + those go to yoga pants. We want you to wear clothing that is neither too right nor too loose. We want you too look flattering + confident in the photographs, therefore you must dress confidently + flatteringly.
DO:
- Choose a classy outfit for you both. Think along the lines of a cocktail dress, button-up shirt + dress pants, heels, + jewelry. Not only will you both look like you’re ready to take on the world, but you’ll photograph even better!
- Choose a casual outfit. Make this about you as a couple. If you love the Washington Redskins (like everyone should), wear football jerseys. If you both love summer wear a cute summer dress + a polo and shorts!
- Wear bright + bold colors! They photograph even better than you think!
- Wear clothing that flatters your favorite body parts. Don’t like your thighs? Then let’s stay away from short skirts.
- Coordinate your outfits. We don’t mean wear matching outfits, but rather outfits that look nice + compliment each other.
- Consider color tones. Where colors that compliment your skin tone. Being a ginger myself, I know yellows, oranges + reds aren’t as flattering as blues + greens. Therefore I don’t wear them.
- For all of my plaid lovers out there raise your hands! We ask you wear LARGE printed plaid. The smaller can get lost in the photo + appear super busy.
- Don’t forget those accessories! No this doesn’t mean to wear your largest gold money chain, but rather a more suitable statement necklace + pearls. Don’t forget your favorite shoes- whether it be heels or those too cute Steve Madden sandls that you’ve been dying to wear. Don’t forget to swing by the jewelers + have your engagement ring cleaned too! Scares, necklaces, belts, earrings, you name it + I’m sure I’ll love it. OH, and we can’t forget the guys. Have him wear a nice, respectable watch + those loafers that he thinks are silly.
DONT’S:
- Don’t wait until hours prior to your session to choose your outfits. No one needs or deserves that last minute stress. Be sure to plan ahead and get excited! Don’t worry about those butterflies or nerves- we get those too!
- Don’t leave out your future hubby! Now this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to drag him on an all day shopping spree just to find him the perfect outfits, but if that’s your style then go for it. We recommend him going through some of our prior engagement sessions to pick out his favorite outfits, or what he thinks he’d feel comfortable in. That way he feels included in the entire process as well.
- Don’t wear ill fitting clothing. We want you to look as flattering as possible in all of your pictures!
- Avoid matching shirts for engagement sessions. You both don’t need the classic white shirts + jeans. Trust me, there’s other clothing out there that’ll make you look even better together as a couple!
- Avoid strange patterns. Keep your leopard, cheetah + other zoo animals at home in their cages. They tend to not photograph very well.
