Today we’re going to chat about, in my opinion, the most important part of your session – the PHOTOGRAPHER! Getting to know your photographer on a personal and a professional level is a MUST! Not only do you want to know how they conduct their business, but you might also want to know how they got started in the profession to begin with.
So here are a few questions you might want to ask your photographer:
- How did you get started?
- Are you self-taught, or did you go to school for it?
- Why do you photograph engagements + weddings?
- Who are your second shooters? Do you use them often? Are they your significant other?
- What is your favorite thing to photograph on a wedding day?
- And just for fun: If you could request a song at our wedding, what would it be?
So today, you’re in for a treat! I’m going to share my answers to the above questions in hopes that we can better get to know each other!
- My creative journey is kind of a funny story! I’ve been interested in art since I can remember! My mom + I would do arts and crafts all the time! I guess you could say my photography obsession started in 2001-2002. My dad took me to Disney world and I went through 33 rolls of film (back when film was the big dog on campus!). Every since then my obsession has slowly grown. I got my first point-and-shoot digital camera in 2006, and haven’t turned back since! I actually photographed my first wedding in May of 2014, and decided weddings weren’t for me. I spent about a year photographing children and families and then I was approached to photograph a wedding in April of 2015 and I tried my hand at it again + it felt totally natural! Every since then I’ve been focusing solely on Engagements, Senior Portraits and Weddings! I guess you could say deep down inside I’m a hopeless romantic.
- I’m a combination of both self-taught and professionally trained. I’m currently a senior at Longwood University majoring in photography, but along the way I have taught myself, with the help of some great creatives, how to pursue a career in the wedding industry.
- Like I mentioned before, I’m a helpless romantic. I LOVE love stories, and I just can’t get enough of getting to know other couples.
- My second shooter 95% of the time is Matthew. Not only is he great with the groomsmen, but he’s always there to help granny get from place to place, hold your mom’s purse during family pictures, and capture the grooms reaction to seeing his bride for the first time. We’re a dynamic duo that has been together for FOUR years! We can guarantee that our love for each other will make each of our couples completely comfortable at all of your sessions with us. Needless to say, you can expect to see Matthew at every session with us!
- There are so many things on the wedding day that I love photographing! If I had to choose one favorite thing to photograph it would be the couples rings! I mean who doesn’t love to show off their bling? Besides that I LOVE doing the Bride + Groom’s portraits (either at their first look, or after the ceremony). There’s nothing like capturing a couples bliss for each other!
- Oooh here’s a tough question. If I were to request a song at a wedding what would it be….? Well I can be a little indecisive, so here are a few options for different occasions. You can never go wrong with “Shout!” or “Boogie Shoes!” If we’re going for the sappy love songs well I love “Rhythm of Love” by the Plain White T’s, “Then” by Brad Paisley, “I Loved Her First” by Heartland, and a recent favorite “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett.
