So now you have your venue (YAY!), you’ve prioritized your remaining vendors (you’ve considered placing your photographer as priority #1), and you’re looked into your florist, you have your rental company, and you’ve thought about your wedding guests.
So now what? Your wedding cake (YUM!).
Truth be told, one of our favorite parts of a wedding day is the wedding cake! Not only is every cake SO unique but so are the incredible flavors that every couple chooses! (Photo by Katelyn James Photography)
Since we were planning our own destination wedding, we figured we better look into a local cake baker. We scheduled our tasting, met the baker, and even got to taste a few flavors. Keep in mind when you’re planning a destination wedding on an island, some of the vendors are used to island time + the life. Granted, there’s nothing wrong with that (heck, one day we’ll be a salty mermaid + pirate ourselves!), however the baker just wanted the PERFECT fit for us.
Therefore, after the trip we went home + thought it all through. (Photo by Katelyn James Photography)
WHY pay crazy prices for a cake that tasted okay, was created with simple white icing + a simple pound cake inside, and we had to pay delivery fees!? Nope! Not for me!
Rewind to my childhood birthday parties. As we like to say, it’s not a TRUE birthday in our household without the traditional Ukrop’s Cake!! Let’s be honest, if you’ve never had it, you need to stop reading this and go to the store immediately. Granted, Ukrop’s is closed, so you’ll have to try Wegman’s or Kroger (which I know has it in stock 24/7).
So we called up Ukrop’s + come to find out they have a bakery location in Richmond (now that their grocery stores are closed) and you can schedule an appointment for a tasting! And that’s exactly what we did + BAM! We then had our cake for the wedding! (Photo by Katelyn James Photography)
THE BEST PART? It was under SUPER affordable for 72 people, but let’s face it we ordered for 125 so we could have extra cake.
